What Are Shark Cards?
Shark Cards are GTA Online's real-money currency packs. You pay real money, receive a fixed amount of GTA$ (in-game currency), and spend it on vehicles, properties, weapons and businesses. That's the whole deal — no subscription, no recurring charge, just a one-time GTA$ injection.
They've been controversial since day one. The community largely hates them. Rockstar keeps selling them because they make enormous amounts of money. And millions of players keep buying them despite the criticism — because for some people, skipping the grind is genuinely worth it.
This article gives you the honest maths so you can decide for yourself.

Every Shark Card Price in 2026
Here's every current card with the real numbers that matter — GTA$ per dollar and the Cayo Perico grind equivalent for each one:
| Card | Price | GTA$ | GTA$/$1 | Cayo runs | Grind hours |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tiger Shark | $4.99 | $250,000 | 50,100 | 0.3 runs | ~10 min |
| Bull Shark | $9.99 | $600,000 | 60,060 | 0.7 runs | ~25 min |
| Great White | $19.99 | $1,500,000 | 75,037 | 1.5 runs | ~53 min |
| Whale Shark | $49.99 | $3,500,000 | 70,014 | 3.5 runs | ~2 hrs |
| Megalodon Best value | $99.99 | $10,000,000 | 100,010 | 10 runs | ~6 hrs |
Rockstar runs periodic Shark Card bonuses — usually 30–40% extra GTA$ on the larger cards. The last bonus ran in July 2026 and pushed the Megalodon to 14,000,000 GTA$ for the same price. Always check rockstargames.com/newswire before buying — buying during a bonus period can make a real difference.
The Honest Answer: Is It Worth It?
It depends entirely on two things: how much you value your time, and which card you're considering. Here's the real breakdown:
- You hate grinding and have disposable income
- You need a big one-time purchase (Kosatka, Nightclub, Bunker)
- You're buying during a bonus event (30–40% extra GTA$)
- Your hourly rate at work exceeds what grinding would earn per hour
- You want to jump straight into end-game content
- You enjoy the grind and have time to play regularly
- You're buying Tiger or Bull Shark — terrible value
- You only need a small amount — a single Cayo run beats Tiger/Bull
- GTA 6 is launching November 19 — economy resets anyway
- You haven't tried the Acid Lab + Cayo loop yet
The Small Cards Are Almost Never Worth It
The Tiger Shark ($4.99 for $250k) and Bull Shark ($9.99 for $600k) are the worst value in the game by a significant margin. A single Cayo Perico run — which takes about 35 minutes — pays out $800k to $1.3M. That's more than both small cards combined for zero real money spent.
The only scenario where the small cards make sense is if you're a brand new player who literally cannot afford the setup for Cayo Perico and needs a quick boost to get started. Even then, the Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid is available to most players and pays $500k flat in 20 minutes.
The Megalodon Is the Only Card Worth Considering
If you're going to buy a Shark Card, the Megalodon ($99.99 for $10M) is the only one where the maths starts to make sense for certain players. Here's why:
$10M lets you buy the Kosatka submarine ($2.2M) to unlock Cayo Perico, a fully upgraded Acid Lab ($750k setup + upgrades), a Nightclub ($1M), and still have money left over for a decent vehicle. That's essentially your entire early-to-mid game infrastructure purchased in one hit — skipping roughly 6 hours of grinding to get there.
Whether 6 hours of your time is worth $99.99 is a personal decision. For someone who works full-time and plays an hour a week, it probably is. For a student with plenty of free time, it almost certainly isn't.
What About GTA 6?
Here's something worth considering before you spend real money on GTA Online right now: GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 — 58 days away. GTA Online and GTA 6's online mode will be completely separate economies. Any GTA$ you earn or buy in GTA Online does not carry over to GTA 6.
That doesn't mean buying a Shark Card now is pointless — GTA Online will keep running alongside GTA 6 for years. But if your goal is to enjoy GTA 6 Online from day one, saving your real money for the new game makes more sense than spending it on the old one right now.
Rockstar has not confirmed whether Shark Cards will exist in GTA 6, what they'll cost, or what the in-game economy will look like. We'll update our tools with real GTA 6 economy data on launch day — sign up for early access to get notified first.
The Bottom Line
Small cards (Tiger, Bull): almost never worth it — a single heist run beats them both. Large card (Megalodon): worth considering if you have disposable income and want to skip straight to end-game setup. Everything in between: situational, and only during a bonus event.
